The Zuni Tribe's Language

Zuni is a language roughly spoken by about 9,500 people in the USA, mostly places like Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico and little parts of Arizona.  Zuni is influenced by other languages as well as in the areas where it’s spoken, most commonly in places like Hopi, Keresan, Tanoan, but also Navajo.  The language is spoken by many, as in men, women and also children of any age group.  It is the main language of communication in the Zuni Pueblo.

Ways of writing Zuni with the Latin alphabet have been figured out by quite a few linguists and anthropologists.  The most recent was figured mostly by Curtis Cook, who recorded hundreds and hundreds of Zuni histories, folk tales and religious teachings. Curtis Cook also produced textbooks for learning the Zuni language.
You can read the text below, for some teaching of the Zuni language.

  2. This reflects everyday life, especially if you live in the places in which people speak the Zuni language. Also the alphabet and how it is used is something that is also used, it is similar to the English alphabet. Although some may not know about the Zuni people, a percentage of people know. This reflects back on myself, from reading things about the Zuni people you realize that somethings that they do, are maybe things you also do just don't realize. It is well spoken as said near Arizona, in which the English language is 95% of the language, many may also know the Zuni language to speak with the Zuni people.

The interesting thing is, is that 9,500 people still have accounted to keeping the language around. Like some tribes and with their language eventually it slowly goes away, but some passages I have read said that the Zuni language continues to grow today.

Reading about the language and other parts of the Zuni Flesh People are very interesting, it is always nice to learn more about something that you never would have known about if you wouldn't have thought to do this.

  3. Dalton,
Insightful and sensitive, as your comments usually are. TO make it truly reflexive, you should add a bit more about -- for instance -- your experience with languages. How many do you know? Speak? Have been exposed or not exposed to? Then, also about your native language and its prestige position in the world. English is a powerful language used in world commerce and all. So, that would make it an excellent comment. Add something like that and email me so I can read it again. Thank you!

  4. You also need to add references in your Ethnographic Post Dalton, please, don't forget that. Again, email me once you do it so I can read it.

This turns out on me, due to the fact that I only know two languages and can hardly speak one. Therefore making me uneducated in the language (French). I feel like this is interesting be able to do research on the Zuni Indians and how their language is also in different parts of the world and isnt related to any other lanaguages. It is nice sometimes to hear about something you may not know about.
